The Indigo Notebook

indigoThe Indigo Notebook by Laura Resau

About: Fifteen-year-old Zeeta’s life with her free-spirited mother, Layla, is not what anyone would call normal.  Just as she finally feels at home in one exotic location, her mother decides it is time to move. Fifteen countries in fifteen years! And Zeeta records her journey in notebooks – a different color for every country. While many teens might love this life of one crazy adventure after another, Zeeta’s one wish is to be like the picture perfect families she has seen in Better Homes and Gardens. Zeeta and her mom’s latest adventure takes them to Otavalo, Ecuador where it looks like Zeeta’s wish might just come true. But, as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for!

Roben’s Thoughts: This book made me want to pack a bag and fly to Ecuador!  The author’s descriptions of breathtaking scenery, delicious food, and fascinating people were amazing. The book has a little bit of everything.  Zeeta meets an American boy named Wendell who is seeking his birth parents  Wendell recruits her to be his translator – so there is romance and mystery as their search takes them to Agua Santa, a small village in the mountains of Ecuador.  Mix in a little bit of magical realism and danger – and there’s something for everyone! Plus- it’s the first book in a series so if you love Zeeta, you can follow her on her next adventure to a place with lots of light and fountains – and a Ruby Notebook.
